New Open and Save dialog boxes
Other ancient Mac OS interface annoyances are on their way out with Mac OS 8.5: the dull and inflexible Open and Save dialog boxes, necessary evils since 1984. Mac OS 8.5’s new dialog box for opening and saving bears a striking resemblance to a Finder list-view window.
To navigate the folder hierarchy, you can use the triangle buttons to the left of the folders’ names or you can double-click on folders. In some programs, you can even make multiple selections in this dialog box (by shift-clicking), opening several files at once. Three new pop-up icons await, too. Although annoyingly unlabeled, they represent Shortcuts, Favorites, and Recent Items and offer easy access to files, folders, and disks you use often. (Tip: To install an item in your Favorites from within this dialog box, just drag the item from the file list onto the Favorites button.)
